Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive SQL Server Database Administrator to join our dynamic IT team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing our SQL Server databases to ensure high availability, performance, and security. Responsibilities

• Administer, configure, and maintain standalone Microsoft SQL Server databases and SQL cluster environments across on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
• Monitor database health, availability, storage utilization, and capacity; identify and address issues before they affect users.
• Troubleshoot database errors, connectivity problems, blocking, deadlocks, query performance, and database-related application issues.
• Perform SQL scripting and develop repeatable automation for database administration and maintenance.
• Plan and execute database and server maintenance, software installations, patching, and configuration changes through approved change-management procedures.
• Configure and validate backups and restores; support disaster recovery testing and high-availability failover activities.
• Tune queries, indexes, and database configurations using performance metrics and documented findings.
• Implement and maintain database access controls, encryption, and auditing consistent with customer requirements.
• Manage incidents, service requests, and Requests for Changes in ServiceNow, documenting work through resolution and meeting applicable service-level targets.
• Use monitoring tools such as Idera and SolarWinds to investigate alerts, track trends, and support capacity planning.
• Assist users and application teams with database creation, configuration, and integrations, including SharePoint-related database support.
• Collaborate on support for the broader database environment, including Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, and Microsoft Access.
• Maintain technical documentation, recovery procedures, and operational runbooks; submit weekly activity and accomplishment reports.

Required Qualifications

• At least four years of hands-on database administration experience, with substantial Microsoft SQL Server experience; target experience range is 5–10 years.
• Demonstrated experience administering standalone SQL Server databases and SQL clustering or comparable SQL Server high-availability configurations.
• Proficiency in SQL/T-SQL scripting, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and database maintenance.
• Practical experience with backup and recovery, restore validation, high availability, and disaster recovery procedures.
• Experience installing and patching database software and implementing controlled production changes.
• Ability to diagnose database and application integration issues, document root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Experience with database security controls, monitoring, and capacity management.
• Ability to work independently, collaborate across technical teams, and communicate clearly with users and management.
• Ability to comply with customer remote-access, information-security, and equipment-use requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Relevant Microsoft SQL Server or database administration certifications.
• Experience using ServiceNow, Idera, and SolarWinds.
• Experience supporting databases in cloud environments.
• Working knowledge of Oracle, PL/SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, or Microsoft Access.
• Experience automating database provisioning and maintenance through scripting or infrastructure as code.
• Experience supporting federal agencies or similarly controlled enterprise environments.

Pay: $75.00 - $85.00 per hour
