Senior Databricks Data Engineer (Chicago Area)

Location: Chicago, IL (River North) · Hybrid, 3 days/week onsite

Pay: $110,000 – $160,000 per year

The role

You will design, build and optimize scalable data pipelines and platforms on Databricks for a large manufacturing client in the Chicago area. You'll work alongside the client's business stakeholders, analysts, data scientists and partner teams to turn requirements into robust data solutions, and help shape the architecture from the design phase onward.

What you'll do

- Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines on Databricks (Spark, Delta Lake, medallion architecture)

- Implement data models and warehouse layers that support reporting, dashboards and self-service analytics

- Ensure data quality, performance and governance (Unity Catalog)

- Improve existing data architectures and set engineering best practices

- Mentor other engineers and provide technical leadership on the team

What we're looking for

- 5+ years in data engineering, with hands-on Databricks work on production projects (Spark, Delta Lake)

- Experience on a major cloud platform (Azure preferred; AWS or GCP considered)

- Strong Python and SQL (Scala a plus)

- Solid data modeling and data warehousing background

- Experience with performance tuning, data quality and governance in modern data architectures

- Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

- Able to be onsite in Chicago 3 days per week

- Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or a related field, or equivalent experience

Nice to have

- Integrating SAP data (S/4HANA, BW, HANA) into a lakehouse

- Consulting experience across multiple stakeholders or projects

- Databricks certification (Data Engineer Associate or Professional)

Pay: $110,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
