About This Role

We are seeking a seasoned Property Controller to own and run our accounting department. This is the senior accounting role at Parktown Living, and the Controller has full accountability for the department's people, processes, and results. You will lead a team of 5–7 accountants and AP specialists, manage an outsourced accounting organization, and operate with a high degree of independence. The right candidate has done this before, brings a proven playbook, and is comfortable making decisions and driving results without day-to-day direction. This is a remote position; however, the ideal candidate will be based in Southern California and able to meet periodically at our corporate office in Woodland Hills, CA.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Operations & Reporting

· Own the monthly close process and financial operations for a multi-state multifamily portfolio, with full accountability for accuracy and timeliness

· Review and sign off on property-level P&Ls, balance sheets, and budgets

· Own and strengthen a reporting framework that flags risks and highlights opportunities in real time

· Lead forecasting, variance analysis, capital planning, and cash flow reporting

Systems & Process

· Manage property onboarding and offboarding in Yardi Voyager, including system setup, chart of account mapping, and data integrity

· Lead property transitions from an accounting standpoint across acquisitions, dispositions, and management changes from various ERP systems

· Own and continually improve internal controls, standardized processes, and financial best practices across the department

Leadership, Training & Compliance

· Run the accounting department end to end, setting priorities, structure, and standards with minimal oversight

· Lead and manage the accounting team, including hiring, onboarding, developing, and mentoring team members

· Serve as the sole point of contact for third-party clients on all financial communications and inquiries, ensuring timely, accurate, and professional responses

· Design and deliver training programs in Yardi Aspire for accounting and cross-functional staff via in-person and virtual formats

· Plan and manage internal and external audits and ad hoc projects

· Partner with Executive Leadership on financial reporting, strategic initiatives, and departmental planning

· Ensure compliance with internal controls and company financial policies across all jurisdictions

Minimum Requirements

· Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent industry certification

· Minimum of 3 years as a Controller leading an accounting department in the property management industry

· Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with Yardi Voyager, including property onboarding and offboarding

What You Bring

· Advanced technical accounting expertise, sound judgment, and a high standard for accuracy, with the ability to work independently, resolve complex issues, and own key financial decisions for the department

· A track record of building and leading high-performing accounting teams, including recruiting, developing talent, and setting clear expectations and accountability. A demonstrated ability to engage and motivate a fully remote team, fostering collaboration and a culture where team members feel supported, recognized, and invested in their growth

· A can-do attitude and a hands-on leadership style, with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and work alongside the team during month-end close, audits, property transitions, and other crunch times

· Proven success implementing process improvements, delivering accounting training programs, and building department infrastructure

· Experience managing outsourced accounting firms and client relationships, including communicating financial results to owners and third-party stakeholders

· Exceptional written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-state environment

Pay: $125,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
