Founding Software Engineer (Backend)-Fuel Distribution SaaS

About the role

We are building FuelOps: an integrated operations and finance platform for petroleum and bulk fuel distribution, and then for the wider transportation industry.

This is not a greenfield idea looking for its first user. A working version is already running the business today. We built a full ERP covering dispatch, yard operations, driver logistics, inventory, and a complete general ledger that replaced QuickBooks Desktop. It has 56 data tables, tens of thousands of posted GL transactions, and it is in live beta right now with real loads and real money moving through it.

We are now rebuilding it as a standalone multi-tenant SaaS product on Postgres and AWS, because the low-code platform we proved it on cannot be sold to anyone else.

You would be the first engineer. You would work directly with the two founders, one of whom built the current system and knows every table in it.

What you would actually build

Year one, concretely

• Design the second-generation data model from a ruled architecture specification. It is not a port of the existing schema. The entity core models quantity, identity, conversion, and transformability as independent typed traits, carries dual quantity with conversion provenance on every ledger row, and treats ownership and custody as separate axes.
• Build the immutable transaction ledger and the general ledger posting engine. Balances are derived from the ledger, never written directly. Nothing edits history. You will do this alongside a founder who has already built one; you do not have to arrive knowing it.
• Re-express business rules that currently live in the low-code layer as database constraints, triggers, and server-side code: negative-stock guards, delivery-date authority, GL posting sequencing, blend and inventory movement rules.
• Write the one-time migration that loads a frozen export of the current system into the new model.
