Director of Pharmacy Operations

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and accomplished Director of Pharmacy Operations to provide strategic and operational leadership across pharmacy services. The ideal candidate will have 20+ years of progressive experience in pharmacy, healthcare operations, or a closely related field, with a strong background in leadership, compliance, operational excellence, and team management.

This position will oversee pharmacy operations, support high-quality patient care, improve efficiency, and ensure compliance with applicable healthcare and pharmacy requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily pharmacy operations and ensure efficient delivery of pharmacy services.
• Provide strategic leadership to pharmacy managers, pharmacists, technicians, and operational teams.
• Develop and implement pharmacy policies, procedures, and operational standards.
• Monitor operational performance, productivity, quality, and key performance indicators.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state pharmacy laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
• Collaborate with clinical, administrative, finance, compliance, and executive leadership teams.
• Identify opportunities to improve workflows, efficiency, quality, and patient service.
• Support budgeting, staffing, resource allocation, and long-term operational planning.
• Develop strategies to support organizational growth and pharmacy service expansion.
• Monitor inventory, medication management, and operational processes where applicable.
• Resolve complex operational challenges and implement effective solutions.
• Lead quality improvement and process optimization initiatives.
• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Prepare operational reports and provide recommendations to senior leadership.

Qualifications

• 20+ years of progressive professional experience in pharmacy, healthcare operations, healthcare services, or a related field.
• Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Advanced degree such as PharmD, MBA, or MHA preferred.
• Significant leadership experience managing pharmacy teams and complex healthcare operations.
• Strong understanding of pharmacy operations, healthcare compliance, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Proven ability to lead large teams and manage multiple operational functions.
• Excellent strategic planning, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong ability to analyze operational and financial information and make informed business decisions.
• Experience working directly with senior and executive leadership.
• Strong knowledge of pharmacy workflows, performance management, and process improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active pharmacist license where applicable to the role and location.
• Experience managing multi-site pharmacy operations or large healthcare service organizations.
• Experience with pharmacy management systems and healthcare technology.
• Proven experience leading organizational growth and operational transformation.
• Experience developing and implementing long-term operational strategies.

Compensation & Benefits

• Annual Salary: $270,000 – $360,000
