Within GitHub’s ecosystem, Issues and Projects help millions of developers and teams plan, track, and collaborate alongside the code where their work happens. Our team owns the foundational services and infrastructure behind these experiences, ensuring they remain reliable, responsive, and scalable. We solve complex challenges across distributed systems, data storage, APIs, observability, and cloud infrastructure while building the backend capabilities that will unlock deeper Copilot integration across existing and future GitHub Issues and Projects.
In this role, you will be a technical leader and multiplier within our distributed team. You will design, prototype, implement, ship, and operate highly available services at scale; uncover and solve foundational performance and reliability challenges; and guide architectural decisions and long-term technical investments. We are looking for a backend-focused engineer who is comfortable collaborating across the stack and has experience building large-scale systems and customer-facing, AI-powered products.
