Overview

SJL Solutions LLC, a Government Contractor, is seeking a Senior Database Systems Engineer to provide software engineering, systems engineering, and integration support for a major VA EHRM testing organization under the Veterans Affairs Independent Enterprise Testing Support Services contract.

The selected candidate will support enterprise healthcare applications and related integrations, including VistA, Oracle Health (formerly Cerner) Millennium, COTS/GOTS integrations with VistA applications, and other EHR systems. This role combines database engineering, software development, architecture analysis, integration support, and testing collaboration in a complex federal healthcare environment.

The ideal candidate brings strong experience with Python development, Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases, network protocols, and system integration. Experience with AI tools for software development and data analysis is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

· Provide software engineering, systems engineering, and integration support for VA enterprise testing initiatives.

· Evaluate, implement, test, and manage technology solutions.

· Develop and execute architecture strategies, feasibility studies, and integration analyses.

· Gather and define architecture requirements and ensure compliance with organizational and project standards.

· Analyze application and system architecture, perform risk assessments, and help establish appropriate testing environment architectures.

· Support integration across applications, databases, external systems, and healthcare platforms.

· Design and create test cases and contribute to broader testing support activities.

· Produce effective client deliverables and analysis reports with minimal supervision.

· Use architecture tools, repositories, and repository management processes to capture, publish, and maintain architecture artifacts.

· Participate in collaborative meetings with VA customers, project teams, contract teammates, and other stakeholders.

· Manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing requirements, and work independently while maintaining strong attention to detail.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or a related field; equivalent education and relevant experience may be considered.

· At least 10 years of overall information technology experience.

· Demonstrated experience in software engineering, development, systems integration, architecture analysis, and testing integration across applications, databases, and external systems.

· Experience working with Oracle or SQL Server in UNIX, VMS, or Windows environments.

· Hands-on experience with Python scripting and Python-based web development.

· Knowledge of network protocols and external system interfaces.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Strong customer service and stakeholder collaboration skills.

· Ability to work independently and effectively across multiple concurrent tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with Oracle Health or Cerner Millennium, including Oracle Millennium environments.

· Experience with VistA and related VA healthcare systems.

· Experience with COTS/GOTS integration in federal or healthcare environments.

· Healthcare, VA, or DoD architecture or engineering experience.

· Experience with Java and J2EE applications.

· Experience with HP Quality Center, Rational ClearQuest, and risk-based testing methodologies.

· Familiarity with AI-assisted software development or data analysis workflows.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

· Experience using collaboration tools such as Teams and SharePoint.

Public Trust Requirement

This position is contingent upon the candidate’s ability to successfully complete and maintain a federal Public Trust background investigation and suitability determination. Candidates must provide complete, accurate, and timely information and supporting documentation as required during the federal personnel-vetting process. An active Public Trust determination is not required at the time of application.

Work Environment

This is a remote role supporting federal healthcare testing and integration efforts. The position requires regular coordination with customer stakeholders, internal teammates, and project teams in a highly collaborative environment.

Pay: $125,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
