About the role and team

Engineering at Uber means building for real-world impact under real-world constraints. As a Software Engineer II on the Eater Real Time Pricing team, you will build the surge pricing algorithms that keep Uber's delivery marketplace healthy. Our systems produce real-time decision signals that other critical systems - matching, courier pricing, promotions - depend on every second. The team sits at the intersection of the supply and demand sides of the business: when our pricing is right, the marketplace balances; when it is off, consumers and couriers feel it within minutes.

The problems here are complex and the stakes are immediate. Demand spikes with weather, holidays, and events; supply shifts city by city; and our algorithms must respond in real time with imperfect information. We are looking for engineers who think in systems, care about correctness under load, and want a short line from their code to visible marketplace outcomes. What you'll do

* Design, develop, and maintain high-quality code for surge pricing and marketplace-health features of moderate complexity, with multiple system dependencies. * Build and scale real-time pricing and forecasting systems that serve decision signals to matching, courier pricing, and other downstream consumers at high throughput and low latency. * Own the software lifecycle end-to-end: from design docs through production rollout, debugging live issues, and managing incidents in a system where minutes matter. * Collaborate across disciplines - Product, Applied Science, and Ops - to translate ambiguous marketplace problems into simple, robust system designs. * Champion engineering best practices through quality code reviews, comprehensive tests, and strong monitoring of systems that must degrade gracefully under extreme demand. * Navigate cross-t
