GCP CLOUD ENGINEER

Location: Remote

Type: W2 or 1099 ( USC or GC) Only

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced GCP Cloud Engineer to support a federal cloud operations and modernization program. The engineer will provide hands-on support for the operation, maintenance, optimization, and continuous improvement of enterprise cloud environments, including migration of new and legacy applications to cloud platforms.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise across Google Cloud Platform (GCP), cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, Terraform, networking, security, IAM, CI/CD, and cloud operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, deploy, automate, operate, and maintain secure and efficient GCP cloud environments.
  • Configure and manage GCP infrastructure across compute, networking, security, and automation.
  • Support cloud modernization and migration initiatives for new and legacy applications.
  • Use Terraform / Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to create reusable infrastructure modules and maintain secure configurations.
  • Manage and troubleshoot GCP Compute Engine environments running Linux/Red Hat and Windows.
  • Deploy, manage, and scale containerized applications using Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).
  • Deploy and maintain serverless applications using Cloud Run, including Python-based services and routines.
  • Configure and administer GCP IAM roles and policies, including Workload Identity Federation (WIF).
  • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
  • Support cloud networking including VPC, DNS, Load Balancing, Hybrid Connectivity, firewalls, and network security.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, tracing, performance management, and operational controls.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure, networking, GKE, and CI/CD issues.
  • Maintain technical documentation including architecture diagrams, runbooks, SOPs, and compliance artifacts.
  • Support cloud environments operating under federal security, compliance, and governance requirements.
  • Work with application, infrastructure, security, and project teams to support cloud operations and application O&M.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline. 10 additional years of work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 6+ years of experience setting up, configuring, and operating GCP cloud environments and operational tools.
  • 3+ years of hands-on GCP engineering experience, including troubleshooting complex cloud infrastructure, networking, GKE, and CI/CD issues.
  • Strong hands-on experience with GCP Compute Engine for Linux/Red Hat and Windows workloads.
  • Proven experience deploying and managing applications using Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).
  • Experience with Cloud Run, particularly for Python-based services.
  • Strong experience with Terraform / Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Advanced knowledge of GCP IAM, including custom roles and policies.
  • Hands-on experience with Workload Identity Federation (WIF).
  • Experience developing and troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines using Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.
  • Strong understanding of GCP networking, including VPC, DNS, Load Balancing, Hybrid Connectivity, and Firewalls.
  • Experience with cloud monitoring, logging, and tracing.
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation and compliance artifacts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active or previous Public Trust (High-Risk) clearance.
  • GCP Associate Cloud Engineer or Professional Cloud Engineer certification.
  • Previous Federal Government experience, preferably with the VA.
  • Experience with FedRAMP, HIPAA, PCI, NIST 800-53, or CIS benchmarks.
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or Oracle Cloud.
  • Multi-cloud experience.
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust principles, cloud boundary protection, segmentation, and secure data flows.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and/or Red Hat OpenShift.
  • Experience creating and maintaining virtual machine images.
  • OS administration and application performance troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience remediating vulnerability scan findings.
  • ITIL certification or working knowledge.
  • Experience with BigQuery and Cloud Storage for data management and analytics.
  • Experience leveraging pre-trained APIs for common AI tasks.

Federal Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Permanent Residents must have lived in the United States for at least 3 years.
  • Must have a clean criminal background.
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust (High-Risk) position.

Candidates who do not meet the minimum qualifications and federal eligibility requirements will not be considered.

Pay: $75.00 - $110,000.00 per hour
