Chief Financial Officer

Help shape the financial future of a community health organization serving Western Massachusetts and the Berkshires. At Tapestry Health, financial leadership is closely connected to the work: making care and resources accessible, supporting program teams, and planning responsibly through a complex funding landscape.

We are seeking a CFO who brings sound financial judgment, experience with nonprofit and grant funding, and a collaborative approach. You will lead our finance team, partner with program leaders, and give the CEO and board clear information to guide decisions. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer leads Tapestry Health’s financial strategy and day-to-day finance operations. The CFO oversees accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, payroll, grant finances, and cash management, and gives the CEO, senior leadership, and board clear information to support decisions.

The CFO leads a finance team of six and oversees the financial operations of an approximately $12 million organization. Working closely with program leaders, the CFO helps them understand their budgets and funding requirements, plans for cash needs, and develops financial processes that support program operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

Finance and Accounting Leadership

• Oversee accounting, ledgers, reconciliations, and financial reporting systems in accordance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Lead annual and long-term budgeting and financial planning with Tapestry Health’s leadership. Monitor actual results, explain significant variances, and recommend adjustments.
• Work with the board’s finance and audit committee to explain financial results, cash needs, risks, and trends.
• Oversee program and grant accounting. Track expenditures against approved budgets throughout each grant period and prepare required financial reports for government, corporate, and foundation funders.
• Develop and maintain short-term and long-term cash flow forecasts that account for the timing of grant payments, reimbursements, payroll, and other obligations. Identify potential shortfalls early, recommend practical steps to address them, and give the CEO and board a clear picture of Tapestry Health’s cash position.
• Maintain internal controls over revenue, expenditures, and financial reporting.
• Lead audit preparation, coordinate with external auditors, and address audit findings.
• Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and explain Tapestry Health’s financial position to senior leadership and the board.
• Partner with program managers to assess program finances and develop financial processes that support operations.
• Monitor invested assets in accordance with organizational policies and investment guidelines.

Team Leadership

• Lead, coach, and support the finance team. Set clear responsibilities, provide regular feedback, and identify training needs so staff can do their work effectively and grow in their roles.
• Build strong working relationships across Tapestry Health. Communicate financial information clearly, respond to questions from program leaders, and help staff understand the processes that affect their work.

Qualifications

• At least seven years of accounting and finance experience, including experience leading the finance function of a nonprofit organization.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field. CPA or MBA preferred.
• Experience overseeing accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, financial reporting, and audit preparation.
• Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, restricted funding, grant compliance and reporting, and financial systems.
• Experience managing cash flow in an organization with multiple funding sources and varying payment schedules.
• Experience supervising, coaching, and developing a finance team, with the ability to delegate effectively.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn financial data into practical recommendations.
• Ability to explain financial information clearly to program managers, senior leadership, the board, and external partners.
• Sound judgment, integrity, and a commitment to Tapestry Health’s mission and values.

Working Conditions

• Primarily sedentary work.
• Based at Tapestry Health’s Regional Office in Springfield, MA but some travel to other sites required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods.
• Ability to enter data into a computer with repetitive hand and wrist motions.
• Ability to communicate via phone, email, and video conferencing.
• Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds (e.g., office supplies, small packages).
• Ability to move within an office environment, including walking to meetings, retrieving documents, and accessing office equipment.
• Ability to maintain focus and perform work in a standard office setting with typical noise levels.
