Job Description
Note: Our process will rely significantly on off-sheet references (but we will not contact your current employer without your permission, of course).
Start date
ASAP
Position
CEO for ~$40m Equity Holding Company (Rollup)
Location
Remote pre-close and very likely on-site post-close (ultimately TBD)
Commitment
Full-time
Duration
Initial commitment of 5 years (forever if a good fit)
Compensation
Slightly depends on candidate profile, but our starting base case is ~$300k - $350k/year in cash + significant equity upside. (We’re selecting for folks who view this trade as an entrepreneurial / fun / big-title-and-growth opportunity vs. a brand name opportunity, which we’re not yet.)
Activities
The role combines deploying approximately $40 million of equity through acquisitions with leading the operations of acquired assets. We are looking for an executional rock star. The role is highly hands-on and operational—messy, unglamorous, and deeply involved in the daily minutiae of small-business optimization—rather than traditional allocator or investment professional work (e.g., modeling and deal analysis). Traditional financial activities will represent a small minority of the CEO’s time. Success requires rolling up your sleeves, operating with limited resources and imperfect information, and personally solving problems that would be delegated in a larger organization. Said simply, if your goal is to be Warren Buffett, this role is not for you.
- *M&A and Integration (20%):* Deploy approximately $40 million of equity through strategic acquisitions. Source and evaluate acquisition opportunities in coordination with Tucker’s Farm’s M&A team. Lead the integration of acquired businesses and develop a repeatable playbook for future platform expansion.
- *Operational Leadership (80%):* Lead platform operations following the acquisition of the first asset. This includes: (1) providing daily operational leadership and strategic direction across all business units; (2) overseeing budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation through clear KPIs—and holding team members accountable for performance; and (3) leading the recruitment, training, and development of management team members. The CEO must be equally willing to set the strategy and dive into the weeds—doing whatever is required to solve problems, improve performance, and build the platform.

Firm Description
We are a low-profile, value-oriented holding vehicle modeled after Berkshire Hathaway that aims to acquire ~$150 million of businesses every year (~$75 million equity).
The founders/investment team is composed of value investors from Apollo Global Management (~$60bn private equity group) and Viking Global Investors (~$30bn hedge fund). We have various subsidiaries or ‘platforms’ (also known as rollups, aggregations, or buy-and-builds).
Each platform is capitalized with a long-term equity base (from our own capital and select partners like insurance companies, endowment managers, etc.) and has the sole mandate of compounding cash flows for the long term, primarily through M&A. We have a broad mandate and look for opportunities across industries, geographies, and the capital structure, although our primary focus is on rollups. We are mostly investing out of our recently raised $100m+ holding vehicle.
Role Trade-offs
(+)
You will be an early team member at a high-growth holding company.
(+)
You will work with and learn from a highly successful PE team with a top investing track record.
(+)
You will have a big title and significant autonomy and responsibility.
(+)
You will have a lot of fun in a scrappy, entrepreneurial environment.
(=)
You will be doing a lot of non-financial, hands-on, highly people-based work (not thinking big financial or strategic thoughts).
(-)
If joining a large, established company with a big brand is appealing to you or you enjoy structured environments, then this opportunity is not a fit.
Role Qualifications
- Low career turnover: excluding business school (and related internships), 2 or fewer jobs in the last 5 years.
- Stellar references: that speak to work ethic, kindness + honesty – our process relies heavily on ‘off-sheet’ references regarding past performance. We typically find a way to connect with 5+ past co-workers and senior people (but will not contact your current employer without your permission).
- High ranking/previous performance: in previous roles, with references that will speak to that stellar performance.
- Highly organized operational rockstar (not financial): high attention to detail, highly responsive, consistent, conscientious, superb at to-do lists, general execution and project management, including managing multiple workstreams and teams of people (internal and external, including sellers, advisors, lawyers, accountants, etc.). Excels at keeping the trains running on time and the t’s crossed and i’s dotted!
- High undergrad GPA / GMAT: while not always relevant (especially with stellar references), we believe there can be some signal in GPA / GMAT and use it.
- Investing Experience (nice to have): ideally at least 2+ years of investing/PE experience.
