Position Summary

Applied Science & Innovation, Inc. (ASI) supports the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with high-quality, effective, and efficient Information Technology (IT) services that advance VA's mission. VA depends on secure Information Management and Information Technology (IM/IT) systems to deliver services to Veterans and protect mission information and technology assets.

The Automation and Data Engineer designs, builds, integrates, and maintains data and workflow automation that supports enterprise cybersecurity engineering and operations. The role develops secure tool integrations, data pipelines, normalized schemas, orchestration workflows, and measurement capabilities that reduce manual effort while preserving data quality, traceability, and operational reliability. The engineer works with cybersecurity, architecture, infrastructure, analytics, and compliance teams to move security data and actions across approved VA platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain secure automation and data integration solutions for cybersecurity tools and engineering workflows.
• Translate operational and security requirements into tool-to-tool and Application Programming Interface (API) integrations, data mappings, schemas, transformation rules, triggers, and dependencies.
• Build and maintain reliable data pipelines that ingest, validate, cleanse, reconcile, enrich, and route security telemetry and asset data across approved environments.
• Define and apply data normalization, labeling, and categorization standards for events, assets, and operational status indicators so information can support correlation, analytics, and reporting.
• Develop Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) playbooks, scripts, scheduled workflows, and approved autonomous workflows that reduce manual effort and improve response consistency.
